Extend the reach of an I2C Bus with SparkFun Differential I2C Breakout Boards

Did you know you can extend the distance of an I2C data bus by up to thirty metres? Well now you do - and this can be accomplished with a pair of SparkFun Differential I2C Breakout Boards and some Ethernet cable. Doing so allows you to increase the distance of sensors, output devices and more from your micrcontroller or controller board.

SparkFun Differential I2C Breakout - PCA9615 from Tronixlabs Australia

The SparkFun Differential I2C Breakout Board from Tronixlabs Australia contains the NXP PCA9615 which converts the two default I2C signals into four differential signals, two for SCL and two for SDA. The differential signals are sent over an Ethernet cable, which attaches to the breakout through the on-board RJ-45 connectors 

The differential signaling allows the I2C signals to reach distances of up to around 30 metres while still maintaining their signal integrity! To make it even easier to get your readings, all communication is enacted exclusively via I2C, and we have broken out 0.1"-spaced pins so you can use a breadboard.
