Convert a rotary telephone into an MP3 player with Raspberry Pi

Posted by

Rotary telephones may seem somewhat out of date, however they're finding a resurgence in all sorts of projects - including the following MP3 player by Instructables member gardines

The dial, hook and speakers are connected to a Raspberry Pi which allows for easy MP3 playback - and has the ability to receive the pulses from the rotary dial - making a crude form of user input.

However each number on the dial results with a different command to the MP3-playing Raspberry Pi, such as track forward, search for song and more. Certainly something different, and also an example of how to interface a rotary dial with your Pi. To get started, head over to the project page
