Test power supply circuits with the SparkFun Variable Load Kit

Posted by

If you've built a power supply and want to see if it can deliver as promised, or need to simulate a load on an amplifier or other output - then build a SparkFun Variable Load Kit from Tronixlab Australia.

SparkFun Variable Load Kit from Tronixlabs Australia

Once assembled, the kit allows users to draw a specific amount of current from a voltage input. This kit can be used to test stability of the power supply under various loads, battery lifetime, safety cutoffs and other design elements. The Variable Load Kit can test supplies of up to 30V at currents ranging from a few mA all the way up to 4A.

Control is via capacitive touch buttons on the PCB and output display is via an optional LCD or terminal software on a computer via a USB cable.

The kit is easy to assemble - all the surface-mount components are already soldered to the PCB, and there's plenty of documentation to get you started.
